What do we mean by Social Service?

Social Service refers to activities carried out with a aim of benefitting underprivileged people in a society. It is a broad term which encompasses various activities ranging from providing food, clothing, education, etc. to poor to channelizing donations from well off people to the destitutes. Different people have different motivations for carrying out Social Service. And they have different ways of carrying it out too. But one thing common among all of them is the spirit to do something good for others without any personal gains as such. One may have to spend his time, energy, effort or money for it but ultimately he has the satisfaction from inside that he is not living a totally self-centered life and he is making a difference in lives of others. Generally people have the notion that one has to be devoted full time for Social Service and working professionals can't be a part of it. But as the saying goes, "Where there is a will, there is a way". It is the personal committment to do something good for the underprivileged people that really matters and everything else follows.
